ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As a Coach for the Kuringgai Kangaroos Basketball Club (KKBC), your role is crucial in creating a positive and nurturing environment for players, fostering their growth both on and off the court. Working collaboratively with the Team Manager, Age Manager, and the Club, you contribute to the development of players and the club culture.

Responsibilities:

Cultivating a Positive Culture:

  • Foster a culture centred around teamwork, game enjoyment, sportsmanship, and respect for opponents and officials.

  • Uphold the KKBC Equal Court Time policy and adhere to the Codes of Conduct outlined by HKBA and BNSW.

Player and Team Development:

  • Develop individual players' skills and abilities while advancing the team collectively.

  • Formulate training strategies aimed at enhancing both individual and team capabilities.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Maintain open communication with the Team Manager and Age Manager regarding player needs and additional player requirements during games.

Coach's Commitment Code:

  • Uphold the values of KKBC by demonstrating fairness, consideration, and honesty in interactions.

  • Safeguard the well-being and safety of each player.

  • Promote sportsmanship and respect towards opponents, referees, and officials.

  • Inspire players to strive for their highest potential and derive joy from the game.

  • Welcome all players that are allocated to your team by the Age Manager

Representing the Club:

  • Serve as an ambassador of KKBC, being a positive advocate for the club and directing concerns or issues about your team or the competition to your Age Manager or the Committee for resolution.

Guidelines for Coaching:

Understanding Success and Failure:

  • Help players differentiate between success and winning, emphasizing dedication and hard work.

Acknowledge Effort:

  • Recognize and commend efforts as well as positive outcomes.

Constructive Encouragement:

  • Encourage players through mistakes by highlighting positive outcomes of following guidance.

Individualized Approach:

  • Tailor coaching to address individual player needs and encourage growth.

Adaptability:

  • Adapt coaching methods to changing circumstances and evolving team dynamics.

Equal Opportunity for Development:

  • Ensure fair court time for all players over the season, promoting their growth.

Continuous Learning:

  • Encourage ongoing learning through resources, coaching clinics, and accreditation programs.

Inclusive Environment:

  • Foster inclusivity and a positive team culture where all players feel valued.

Parent and Guardian Engagement:

  • Keep parents informed about player progress and address concerns for enhanced support.

 

Coach's Support Measures:

  • Ensure a second adult (parent/guardian) present during coaching sessions.

  • Contact the KKBC Committee for coaching plans and assistance.

  • For underage coaches, the Team Manager sits on the bench during games and supports training.

 

Professional Development:

  • Upon Commencement of first coaching role, completion of  Introduction to Coaching Course (HKBA)

  • Completing Club Coaching Accreditation (BNSW) 

  • Pending HKBA confirmation, Club Coach Course completion may lead to credits for HKBA player skills courses.

 

General Guidelines:

  • Maintain a valid Working With Children Check and 

  • Maintain BNSW volunteer registration.

  • Complete PLAY BY THE RULES Child Protection and Safeguarding Course

  • Keep communication with Team Manager and the Club.

  • Report concerns to KKBC Committee promptly.
